Chapter 1: A long-expected travel adventure [New Zealand Series 17/18]

I’ve been wanting to go to New Zealand since 2001. That’s 17 years ago, after I first watched The Lord of the Rings and then read all the books. Trust me when I say this….when you wait so long to do something, the impact it has on you is huge.

In the next few posts I’ll go through some of the things I did and the people I’ve met, but this is just the first post of what was the best trip of my life (so far!).

I’ve been planning this trip for over a year after having been able to book 1month off work during December17/January18. I did a lot of research, I spoke with a lot of people, asked for tons of advice and spent a lot of money.

I stayed in hostels and didn’t even go out that much but I invested a lot of money on adventures, tours, stuff like skydiving and hiking and I even got a tattoo!

Specific details about my trip:

Days: 7th December 2017 – 8th January 2018

Route: London (stop in Dubai and Sydney) >Auckland > Paihia > Auckland > Rotorua > Taupo > Wellington > Picton/Blenheim > Nelson > Abel Tasman > Fox Glacier > Wanaka > Dunedin > Te Anau > Queenstown > Christchurch > London (stop in Melbourne and Dubai)

Transportation: Bus (Flexi pass from Intercity)

Tours/Activities: Cape Renga and ninety mile beach, Hobbiton Tour, Maori evening experience, Tongariro Crossing, Lord of the Rings locations sites and Weta Studios, Marlborough wine tour, Abel Tasman Kayaks 3-days trip, Fox Glacier Skydive, Wanaka – Rob Roy Glacier hike, Milford Sound tour, Ben Lomond summit hike parasailing, Mount Cook tour;

Packing: too much! I didn’t wear half the stuff I took with me and seriously regret having carried so much. It was not a massive issue, just a waste of space and a faf to pack every other day (another blog post on the issues (‘female issues’) of packing.

I’m uploading a very very short video with the route and some pictures, but a lot more detailed blog posts will follow.

Music: Life od Dillon – Dreams

Feel free to let me know if you’ve got any questions about travelling to New Zealand and I’ll try to help as much as I can.
